Spanish/Latino Culture for the Health Professions

Being bilingual puts you at a distinct advantage when you work in the medical field. JAVĿ¼’s Spanish/Latino culture for the health professions minor helps you gain that edge.

The program is a joint effort of JAVĿ¼'s nursing, modern languages and cultures, and sociology departments. The curriculum closely parallels that in the nursing program, yet it also serves other health-related programs offered at JAVĿ¼, including biology, chemistry, and psychology.

Program Overview

You may take Spanish/Latino culture for the health professions as either a minor or as a certificate program.

The 18-credit minor includes elementary Spanish language training, Latino cultural practice, specialized health-related vocabulary, and community health issues.

The certificate option is mainly for individuals either currently working in health care or those who are employed elsewhere but would like to enter the field. The curriculum is similar to that of the minor, but only 15 credits are required for the certificate.
