Study Abroad Program Costs and Financial Aid
All students are billed JAVĿ¼ tuition and fees while studying abroad. Students considering studying abroad should meet with a financial aid counselor to discuss how this registration may impact their financial aid.
Students will be billed for any charges that appear on the affiliate bill (i.e.: room, board, insurance, and airfare). All students are charged an additional study abroad fee of $500 for each term abroad.
A student enrolled in a program of study abroad approved for credit by JAVĿ¼ may be considered enrolled at JAVĿ¼ for the purpose of applying for assistance under federal student aid programs.
Financial Aid Exceptions
Through the affiliate programs, students retain their financial aid while studying abroad excluding any room and board discounts. This means that Service Scholars and First-Generation Scholars will not receive the housing and meal plan discount while abroad. Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) students not required to study abroad for their major will receive $2,000 less in JAVĿ¼ HEOP grant funds for the semester. An HEOP student required to study abroad for their major will not have any grant changes.
Tuition remission and tuition exchange cannot be used to study abroad.
Students choosing to study abroad through a program that is unaffiliated with JAVĿ¼ are not considered to be enrolled at JAVĿ¼, and therefore are ineligible for federal, state, and JAVĿ¼ aid.
