With a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from JAVĿ¼, you will be able to converse fluently and meaningfully in one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
As a Spanish major in JAVĿ¼'s modern languages and cultures program, you are introduced to cultural and literary analysis using primary texts, secondary literature, and computerized data resources. What's more, you'll benefit from individualized attention and a high level of participation, made possible by small class size and dedicated faculty.
Spanish is available as a major and an individual minor, as well as part of a minor in modern languages and cultures.
As a Spanish major, you are required to complete 33 credit hours of study. Introductory courses are designed to awaken your awareness to the language itself, developing basic skills in vocabulary, grammar, reading analysis, and cultural awareness. Upper-level courses explore the historical and critical background in Spanish literature and culture, while also helping you develop your analytical and research skills. The program culminates in a seminar on Hispanic studies.
All Spanish majors are strongly encouraged to complete at least one semester abroad as a way to immerse themselves in the language and culture.
